After a rather tough play, El Salvador's Jesus Carvallo got a free kick in the 3rd minute. With a little luck, FC POLI TIMISOARA's Cazimir Marincean got control of the ball when Moises Fernandino tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpected shot in the 18th minute by Moises Fernandino got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. If Emilian Tărău had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, El Salvador's Marco Tamayo got a free kick in the 21st minute. Valentino Ferrant hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. Nistor Oroian's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ricardo Zorita read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 24th minute of play. After some careless play in the El Salvador defense, Panait Nicoliță kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ricardo Zorita. The El Salvador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ricardo Zorita should have stopped the shot. In the 30th minute Emilian Tărău shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ricardo Zorita saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Emilian Tărău in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ricardo Zorita saved El Salvador from getting behind. In the 40th minute, Moises Fernandino reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Cazimir Marincean. The goal made the score 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Emilian Tărău in the 45th minute of play forced El Salvador's goalkeeper Ricardo Zorita to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, El Salvador's Joshua Curbelo got a free kick in the 46th minute. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Emilian Tărău made a kick off. Jesus Carvallo's late challenge caught a FC POLI TIMISOARA's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jesus Carvallo helped the player get up and apologised. 60 minutes into the match, FC POLI TIMISOARA's goal looked a bit too open when Moises Fernandino came free, but Cazimir Marincean reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Nistor Oroian charged in rather forcefully in the 63rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nistor Oroian the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Jesus Carvallo hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. 67 minutes into the game, Irinel Breazu cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-2. Ricardo Zorita was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The crowd rose to their feet as FC POLI TIMISOARA's Alexandru Maghear slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Ricardo Zorita. That made the score 2-3 after 72 minutes of play. 77 minutes into the game, El Salvador's Abram Luque nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Cazimir Marincean made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-3. When Alexandru Maghear came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the FC POLI TIMISOARA fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alexandru Maghear couldn't finish the play. When Albert Stelea fell near the penalty area in the 83rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC POLI TIMISOARA's protests and gave Albert Stelea a yellow card for diving instead. Alexandru Maghear sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. FC POLI TIMISOARA were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
