The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to Deportivo Pomelo Nenene getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Eliseo Noboa ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 11th minute, Gaspar Cedro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Axel Tasis succeeded in the game's 13th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-0. Lautaro Puig could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 16th minute of the match, but Hilario Ramos made a huge save. Hilario Ramos was out of position in the 16 minute of play, and Lautaro Puig capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Lautaro Puig really showed his touch with that goal: 2-0. 24 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Severino Txilar came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 30 minutes into the game, Abel Carballo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Costa Rica's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Deportivo Pomelo Nenene the free kick. After 30 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Abel Carballo. In the 40th minute, Gaspar Cedro made a precise shot to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. Hilario Ramos made a fantastic save in the 43rd minute, when Lautaro Puig sent off a good shot on target. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Micky Capusotto to make the kick off. In the 56th minute, Severino Txilar fired a really elegant long shot, but Benito Sanz threw himself and managed to get hold of the ball just in front of the right post. 62 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Micky Capusotto. Micky Capusotto struck a weak shot in the 64th minute. Benito Sanz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Deportivo Pomelo Nenene. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fulgencio Javiero in the 67th minute of the match. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Micky Capusotto in the 68th minute of play. In the 80th minute, Lautaro Puig left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Costa Rica fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Micky Capusotto was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-2. Gaspar Cedro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gaspar Cedro, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. Costa Rica's defense didn't have a chance, in the 97th minute, when Micky Capusotto scored to the left of an out of position Benito Sanz, making the score, 3-3. The Deportivo Pomelo Nenene players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented Costa Rica from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
