Primitivo Escribano struck a weak shot in the 6th minute. Trent Cuevas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Paraguay. Jacobo Nores made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kleanthis Kostakoglou in the 9th minute of play. In the 11th minute, Jaime Pardo reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Trent Cuevas. The goal made the score 1-1. In the 16th minute, Paraguay's Jaime Pardo ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Trent Cuevas. Trent Cuevas yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. Jaime Pardos short, quick shot in the 22ndth minute got Trent Cuevas to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 25th match minute, Paraguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Raul Venegas to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kleanthis Kostakoglou in the 26th minute of play forced Paraguay's goalkeeper Jacobo Nores to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Hector Covarrubias came up free with the goalie in the 29th minute, the Paraguay fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hector Covarrubias couldn't finish the play. Jacobo Nores showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from František Spousta, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. After 34 minutes, Benedykt Cwenar mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FC Schalke 04 and the Paraguay players grew even worse after the yellow card. Jacobo Nores took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kleanthis Kostakoglou, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Paraguay defense, Kleanthis Kostakoglou kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jacobo Nores. The Paraguay fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jacobo Nores should have stopped the shot. Jaime Pardo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Trent Cuevas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Hector Covarrubias charged in rather forcefully in the 44th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Hector Covarrubias the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 44th minute, Hector Covarrubias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Eli Nielsen hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-2 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jaime Pardo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Paraguay's Alan Campos got a free kick in the 52nd minute. After 59 played minutes, FC Schalke 04's František Spousta shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jacobo Nores came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in FC Schalke 04 reached it. Trent Cuevas took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jaime Pardo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Hector Covarrubias hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. Jacobo Nores stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Kleanthis Kostakoglou's shot from short distance in the 72nd minute. A sloppy throw-in by Darren Christopher in the 83rd minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Paraguay's Jaime Pardo. Jacobo Nores showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kleanthis Kostakoglou in the 90th minute of the match. František Spousta recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.
