Spectators: 39 (Terracing: 30, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Kleanthis Kostakoglou made the kick off and thus started the match. FC Schalke 04's Trent Cuevas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Axel Tasis in the 3rd minute of play. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Lautaro Puig hit a great ball. 8 minutes into the game, Costa Rica's Eliseo Noboa nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Trent Cuevas made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. If Kleanthis Kostakoglou had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alexander Carballo lost his temper 14 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Alexander Carballo got a free kick in the 14th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by František Spousta in the 15th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eli Nielsen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lautaro Puig sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Lautaro Puig had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 26th minute, Eliseo Noboa ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Trent Cuevas was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. The supporters of FC Schalke 04 booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Juan Rubio didn't get a good kick on the ball. František Spousta took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 31st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 40th minute, Aaron Alcocer got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Eliseo Noboa charged in rather forcefully in the 42nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Eliseo Noboa the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Eliseo Noboa kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kleanthis Kostakoglou in the 43rd minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Lautaro Puig came up free with the goalie in the 47th minute, the Costa Rica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lautaro Puig couldn't finish the play. After the first half Costa Rica were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Eliseo Noboa to strike the kick off in the second half. After 54 minutes of play, FC Schalke 04's František Spousta made it 1-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Benito Sanz was left in no man's land by his defense there! Eliseo Noboa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Trent Cuevas having to interfere. In the 64th minute, Lautaro Puig ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Trent Cuevas was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-4. Lautaro Puig received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Trent Cuevas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Lautaro Puig fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Trent Cuevas having to interfere. In the 71st minute, Kleanthis Kostakoglou ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-4. If Lautaro Puig had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 83rd minute Kleanthis Kostakoglou shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Costa Rica's Eliseo Noboa got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in FC Schalke 04's zone, Lautaro Puig stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Trent Cuevas came out of the goal and Lautaro Puig tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 88th minute, FC Schalke 04's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Lautaro Puig fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. In the 92nd minute Kleanthis Kostakoglou shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Neal Collins got his second yellow card in the match during the 93rd minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. A collision led to FC Schalke 04 getting a freekick after 93 minutes play.
