Ivar Bjurström made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Ivar Bjurström took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Emmanuel Reyes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 27th minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ivar Bjurström saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rigoberto Bastiaro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rolando Noboa having to make a save. Thanks to some nice moves Rigoberto Bastiaro could shoot a difficult shot in the 29th minute, which Rolando Noboa however easily saved by the left post. Peru's Julian Murillo got a good chance for a goal in the 32nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 33 minutes into the match, Glorioso Deportivo Cali's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Ivar Bjurström reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ivar Bjurström took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Julian Murillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Eliseo Mina made a great header on Peru's corner, it was just that Glorioso Deportivo Cali's Ivar Bjurström managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 41st minute, Adam Kos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 43 minutes into the game, Gervasio Basallan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ivar Bjurström made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Murillo in the 46th minute of play. 48 minutes into the match, Glorioso Deportivo Cali's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Ivar Bjurström reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After the first half Peru were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Eliseo Mina received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. Ivar Bjurström tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 55 minutes had been played when some careless play by Glorioso Deportivo Cali's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Luz Tejedor was slow to take the kick. During this time Peru's players had a chance to rest. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rigoberto Bastiaro in the 59th minute of play forced Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ivar Bjurström showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Julian Murillo, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. 66 minutes into the match, Glorioso Deportivo Cali's goalkeeper Ivar Bjurström had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Milagros Fraga. Glorioso Deportivo Cali's Tzvetan Mudrov was substituted for Teofilo Mascarañas. A sloppy throw-in by John Stones in the 78th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Peru's Alonso Berganza. Ivar Bjurström stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Julian Murillo's shot from short distance in the 85th minute. Ivar Bjurström showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eliseo Mina, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. In the 91st minute Luz Tejedor shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ivar Bjurström saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Peru supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Peru would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
