After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, Maximiliano Escribano managed to get in a good position for a shot. Uruguay's supporters rose to their feet, but Maximiliano Escribano was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gerrit Hardering breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Maximiliano Escribano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gustavo Cordeiro came free with the goalkeeper in the 28th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Joaquin Gayoso could save by the left post. Gerrit Hardering took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Maximiliano Escribano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gerrit Hardering showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alberto Gisbert, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. Gerrit Hardering showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jaime Cazalla, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. Gustavo Cordeiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Joaquin Gayoso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 76thth minute of the game Claudinho Aparecido who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Gerrit Hardering made an important save on a dangerous shot by Maximiliano Escribano in the 82nd minute. Gerrit Hardering made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Gisbert in the 87th minute of play. A nice corner shot did that Jaime Cazalla got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Gerrit Hardering quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Claudinho Aparecido in the 95th minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Despite being the better team, Uruguay failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
