The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Lautaro Puig fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Norberto Scales having to interfere. Eliseo Noboa might have been able to make a better finish in the 19th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Norberto Scales. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Eliseo Noboa ran back to his position shaking his head. When the match had gone on for 21 minutes, Pawel Witwicki put it in 1-0 from a short distance just to the right of Benito Sanz. Norberto Scales didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Eliseo Noboa went, in the 24th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Reynaldo Spivey kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jonas Armendariz in the 29th minute of play. Borussia Dortmund's Jonas Armendariz was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 32nd play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. Pawel Witwicki fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jonas Armendariz, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. When the match had gone on for 38 minutes, Axel Tasis put it in 2-2 from a short distance just to the right of Norberto Scales. After some fancy dribbling in the 44th minute, Eliseo Noboa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Costa Rica's supporters rose to their feet, but Eliseo Noboa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Norberto Scales breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vaughn Cortes during the 47th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Vaughn Cortes hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. The first half was very even, with the score at 2-2 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jonas Armendariz stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Norberto Scales made an important save on a dangerous shot by Axel Tasis in the 58th minute. In the 60th minute, Eliseo Noboa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 61stth minute of the game Jonas Armendariz who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Costa Rica's Benito Sanz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 62 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Pawel Witwicki came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jonas Armendariz in the 63rd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Axel Tasis in the 65th minute of play forced Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper Norberto Scales to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Abel Carballo hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. In the 71st minute of the match Shannon Slater shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Benito Sanz showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When the match had gone on for 73 minutes, Jonas Armendariz put it in 3-2 from a short distance just to the right of Benito Sanz. In the 76th match minute, Borussia Dortmund was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Quincy Stacy to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Borussia Dortmund getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Reynaldo Spivey hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 80th minute, Axel Tasis managed to get in a good position for a shot. When the referee ended the match the Borussia Dortmund players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
