The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the game, Panama's Isidoro Sarmiento nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Carlo Petrini made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Berganza in the 9th minute of play forced Olympique de Marseille's goalkeeper Carlo Petrini to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Chanboon Saedan got free with Marcos Cotilla in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Chanboon Saedan in the 20th minute of play forced Panama's goalkeeper Marcos Cotilla to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Olympique de Marseille's Carlo Petrini played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abraham Alguacil in the 22nd minute of play. Marcos Cotilla showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Thanasit Morpeak in the 24th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Olympique de Marseille's Adiwut Phaowsen got a free kick in the 25th minute. When Abraham Alguacil came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the Panama fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Abraham Alguacil couldn't finish the play. 34 minutes into the match, Tomas Berganza had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Carlo Petrini. Olympique de Marseille's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tomas Berganza was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Tomas Berganza fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlo Petrini having to interfere. Olympique de Marseille's Carlo Petrini played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Berganza in the 47th minute of play.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tomas Berganza to strike the kick off in the second half. 51 minutes into the match, Olympique de Marseille's goalkeeper Carlo Petrini had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tomas Berganza. With a little luck, Olympique de Marseille's Carlo Petrini got control of the ball when Isidoro Sarmiento tried to sneak it across the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tomas Berganza in the 55th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Carlo Petrini saved Olympique de Marseille from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sadayut Thanateerasud in the 60th minute of play forced Panama's goalkeeper Marcos Cotilla to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 1-3 became the score in the 68th minute when Abraham Alguacil elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. 71 minutes into the match, Panama's goal looked a bit too open when Chanboon Saedan came free, but Marcos Cotilla reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Carlo Petrini made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Berganza in the 72nd minute of play. Panama's Alex Cambeiro suffered a sore foot after 78 minutes and couldn't finish the game. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Aekkapong Luabunnum during the 79th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Panama's Oscar Laguna was substituted for Alex Cambeiro. 82 minutes into the match, Olympique de Marseille's goalkeeper Carlo Petrini had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tomas Berganza. Chanboon Saedan hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Abraham Alguacil managed to get in a good position for a shot. Panama's supporters rose to their feet, but Abraham Alguacil was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Carlo Petrini breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Tomas Berganza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 94th match minute, Panama was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Oscar Laguna to maneuver through the defense. When the final whistle sounded Panama left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Olympique de Marseille.
