With an extended leg and a bit of luck Fernand Hierro prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Jaime Pardo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Guns And Roses's Fernand Hierro got control of the ball when Hector Covarrubias tried to sneak it across the goal line. Paraguay's Jaime Pardo got a good chance for a goal in the 12th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jaime Pardo in the 14thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Fernand Hierro, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. After 15 played minutes Guns And Roses got a freekick which was hit by Antonio Cordara. 22 minutes into the match, Guns And Roses's goal looked a bit too open when Hector Covarrubias came free, but Fernand Hierro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Fernand Hierro made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jaime Pardo in the 23rd minute. With his leg Fernand Hierro managed to avoid a goal in the 25thth minute, when Paraguay's Jaime Pardo fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After having played for 27 minutes, Primitivo Escribano managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paraguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Primitivo Escribano was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to Paraguay getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Ivan Prats hit a great ball. Primitivo Escribano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fernand Hierro came out of the goal in the 35th minute to try and stop a shot by Paraguay's Hector Covarrubias. But to his dismay, Hector Covarrubias quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Ivan Prats got a throw-in 40 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Hector Covarrubias. 45 minutes into the game, Primitivo Escribano recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Fernand Hierro. Primitivo Escribano showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Toni Molina stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Fernand Hierro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hector Covarrubias in the 53rd minute of play. In the 54th minute, Xavier Zoido ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Fernand Hierro was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. 59 minutes into the game, Paraguay's Primitivo Escribano nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Fernand Hierro made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-0. Guns And Roses's Fernand Hierro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Primitivo Escribano in the 68th minute of play. Xavier Zoido received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Fernand Hierro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fernand Hierro stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jaime Pardo's shot from short distance in the 74th minute. With a little luck, Paraguay's Jacobo Nores got control of the ball when Angelito Demaria tried to sneak it across the goal line. Fernand Hierro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jaime Pardo in the 80th minute of the match. Guns And Roses's Fernand Hierro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jaime Pardo in the 81st minute of play. In the 82nd minute Hector Covarrubias shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fernand Hierro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jaime Pardo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fernand Hierro having to interfere. After having played for 86 minutes, Iker Tafalla managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paraguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Iker Tafalla was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
