With a little luck, Mexico's Dante Lacasa got control of the ball when Enrique Abeijon tried to sneak it across the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Enrique Abeijon got free with Dante Lacasa in the 28th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Nando Toscano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joel Gaona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Lautaro Mancebo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alberto Tafalla sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lautaro Mancebo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nando Toscano having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Zé Pedro Medeiros got free with Dante Lacasa in the 43rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Nando Toscano didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Lautaro Mancebo went, in the 45th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
