After some careless play in the Peru defense, Fabricio Rencio kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Rolando Noboa. The Peru fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Rolando Noboa should have stopped the shot. Cachiyuyo EAS's Evaristo Velasco played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luz Tejedor in the 41st minute of play. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Julian Murillo made a kick off. Eliseo Mina received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Evaristo Velasco tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 66th minute Luz Tejedor shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Evaristo Velasco saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Milagros Fraga came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the Peru fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Milagros Fraga couldn't finish the play. Evaristo Velasco showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Julian Murillo, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. In the 82nd minute, Julian Murillo made a precise shot to the right of Evaristo Velasco. Cachiyuyo EAS's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1.
