The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When the match had gone on for 5 minutes, Dario Alegría took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Julio Vera to make any attempt to save it. Jailson Teles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 8th minute of the match. AVAÍ F.C.'s Jailson Teles played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 13th minute of play. In the 18th minute, Juan Sebastián Puig hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Walmyr Salless short, quick shot in the 21stth minute got Julio Vera to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agustín Saelices in the 23rd minute of play forced AVAÍ F.C.'s goalkeeper Jailson Teles to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jailson Teles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 26th minute of the match. In the 28th minute Felix Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jailson Teles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee ignored AVAÍ F.C.'s protests and gave Luiz Pombal a yellow card for diving instead. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 43rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dario Alegría could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 45th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

In the 54th match minute, AVAÍ F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luiz Pombal to maneuver through the defense. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dario Alegría in the 57th minute of the match. With his leg Jailson Teles managed to avoid a goal in the 61stth minute, when Ecuador's Daniel Zorita fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 62ndth minute of the game Alex Sági who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 65 played minutes AVAÍ F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Dario Alegría. AVAÍ F.C.'s Tarcisio Chaves was substituted for Luiz Pombal. A collision led to AVAÍ F.C. getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Dario Alegría hit a great ball. After 69 minutes, Luis Andino made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. AVAÍ F.C.'s Jailson Teles tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. AVAÍ F.C. made a substitution. Teodoro Magalhães replaced Rubens Cabral. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Jailson Teles in the 84th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Walmyr Salles in the 86th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind.
