Danial Boon's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Benito Sanz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 16th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Costa Rica's zone, Fragiskos Fitriansyah stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Benito Sanz came out of the goal and Fragiskos Fitriansyah tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Danial Boon in the 25th minute of play. Alexander Carballo kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. In the 29th minute Danial Boon suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. The referee ignored Costa Rica's protests and gave Alan Moruga a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Alan Moruga got a free kick in the 64th minute. Liu Feng Guang received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Benito Sanz came out and tried to block the shot, but Liu Feng Guang slotted it home off the left post making it 0-4 in the 67th minute. Deportivo Pomelo Nenene made a substitution.
