Candido Platon came free with the goalkeeper in the 12th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Julio Vera could save by the left post. The audience was convinced that Marciano Garcia's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 18th minute of the game. Gilberto Dacio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Felix Montenegro in the 20th minute of the match. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. In the 31stth minute of the game Marciano Garcia who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 32nd minute of play forced Itacaruaré FC's goalkeeper Gilberto Dacio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Agustín Saelices received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Gilberto Dacio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Candido Platon stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Candido Platon tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Daniel Zorita made a kick off. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
