Felix Montenegro hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. Chen Feng Jian hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 29th minute of play forced Inter de Chillán's goalkeeper Anton Björnberg to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Inter de Chillán was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Florencio Jax didn't get a good kick on the ball. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Vatan Enfal to make the kick off. 58 minutes into the match, Vatan Enfal had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Julio Vera. Ecuador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Vatan Enfal was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. 63 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Tobías Izamit was slow to take the kick. During this time Inter de Chillán's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Tobías Izamit almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 67th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. Inter de Chillán's Anton Björnberg proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 77th minute of the match, managed to save Inter de Chillán from getting a goal against them. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Samuel Abel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Samuel Abel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Rickard Erserman kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. In the 88th minute Rickard Erserman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 95 minutes into the match, Samuel Abel notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of Ecuador's Julio Vera. Julio Vera was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Ecuador's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
