An unexpectedly hard shot by Joel Gaona in the 30th minute of play forced Inter de Chillán's goalkeeper Anton Björnberg to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 36th minute Alberto Tafalla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Anton Björnberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dante Lacasa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Samuel Abel in the 39th minute. Florencio Jax hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Joel Gaona to make the kick off. Lautaro Mancebo might have been able to make a better finish in the 52nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Anton Björnberg. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Anton Björnberg was out of position in the 93 minute of play, and Joel Gaona capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Joel Gaona really showed his touch with that goal: 1-4. After 95 played minutes Inter de Chillán got a freekick which was hit by Alfonso Sotta. The Inter de Chillán fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Mexico were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
