After having played for 3 minutes, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Paulo Laurentzi recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 7th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Paulo Laurentzi kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 16th minute, when Paulo Laurentzi sent off a good shot on target. Juan Sebastián Puig hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. Bieito Villaurreta took the ball and in the 20 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julio Vera. Julio Vera dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Evelio Antoniano having to interfere. Criciúma Esporte Clube's Evelio Antoniano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 29th minute of play. Paulo Laurentzi struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Julio Vera didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Criciúma Esporte Clube. After having played for 41 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bieito Villaurreta was the one to do the kick off. In the 54th minute Paulo Laurentzi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Evelio Antoniano in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Usub Raha during the 61st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Usub Raha kicked well hit freekick during the 61st minute of the match. Evelio Antoniano showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Felix Montenegro hit a great ball. In the 64th minute of the game Luis Andino made a throw-in which Juan Sebastián Puig played forward. Cristian Sancho in the 66thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Evelio Antoniano, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bieito Villaurreta in the 69th minute of the match. Evelio Antoniano made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 73rd minute. Felix Montenegro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Criciúma Esporte Clube's Usub Raha quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Camilo Gisbert, made in the 89th minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulo Laurentzi in the 94th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulo Laurentzi in the 96th minute of play. Many of Ecuador's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Ecuador may have spent more time on the ball, but Criciúma Esporte Clube were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
