Joel Gaona received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Tigran Balayan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tigran Balayan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lautaro Mancebo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 25 minutes into the match, Joel Gaona had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Tigran Balayan. Khachatryan's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Joel Gaona was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Merlin Castro in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dante Lacasa saved Mexico from getting behind. Through an outstanding action, after 32 minutes, Dante Lacasa successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. When Alberto Tafalla came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Mexico fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alberto Tafalla couldn't finish the play. In the 40th minute Luca Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tigran Balayan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tigran Balayan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 44th minute of play. Khachatryan's Wawrzyniec Budrewicz was substituted for Petros Oganesyan. The Khachatryan players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Mexico were winning 1-2.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Merlin Castro made a kick off. 57 minutes into the game, Joel Gaona cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-3. Tigran Balayan was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Khachatryan's Cesar Holland was substituted for Zé Augusto Souza. In the 61st minute of the match, Lautaro Mancebo got a very nice opportunity to score, but Tigran Balayan was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. After some fancy dribbling in the 63rd minute, Lautaro Mancebo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mexico's supporters rose to their feet, but Lautaro Mancebo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tigran Balayan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Khachatryan's Antoine Schaefer got a free kick in the 77th minute. In the 81st minute Luca Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tigran Balayan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mexico's Dante Lacasa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cesar Holland in the 97th minute of play. Mexico played a much better game than Khachatryan and deserved their victory. The Khachatryan players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
