Benedito Trigo made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Luis Andino struck a weak shot in the 19th minute. Benedito Trigo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. After 20 played minutes Sagarana Clube got a freekick which was hit by Wilson Valladares. Daniel Zorita took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 21st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Benedito Trigo. Sagarana Clube's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Luis Andino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benedito Trigo having to interfere. When Agustín Saelices came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Agustín Saelices couldn't finish the play. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 35th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. Benedito Trigo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 39th minute of play. The Sagarana Clube players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ecuador were winning 0-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Cristian Sancho ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benedito Trigo was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. With his leg Benedito Trigo managed to avoid a goal in the 59thth minute, when Ecuador's Cristian Sancho fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Serafim Barros, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sagarana Clube were awarded a corner in the 62th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Serafim Barros took the corner. Beto Heidemann made a great header on Sagarana Clube's corner, it was just that Ecuador's Julio Vera managed to reach the ball for a save. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 69th minute. Sagarana Clube's Fabrício de Alcântara was substituted for Zé Roberto da Costa. With a little luck, Sagarana Clube's Benedito Trigo got control of the ball when Cristian Sancho tried to sneak it across the goal line. Benedito Trigo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 82nd minute. Antonio Arias made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that Sagarana Clube's Benedito Trigo managed to reach the ball for a save. Benedito Trigo made a fantastic save in the 85th minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. If Yu Yang Sang had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Beto Heidemann in the 91st minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
