Dimitris Michopoulos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alberto Gisbert, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. After 7 minutes Olympiacos FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Jaime Cazalla who took care of the corner kick. The supporters of Olympiacos FC booed when Uruguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Maximiliano Escribano didn't get a good kick on the ball. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Joaquin Gayoso. Timos Kolleris's late challenge caught a Uruguay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Timos Kolleris helped the player get up and apologised. Uruguay's Lucho Andrade was substituted for Bruno Beldad. Timos Kolleris hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. When the match had gone on for 23 minutes, Vrasidas Mantelis put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Joaquin Gayoso. Timos Kolleris let the left foot speak when in front of goal in the 30th minute shot 3-0 at rihgt post. Dimitris Michopoulos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Maximiliano Escribano in the 41st minute of the match. 41 minutes into the match, Olympiacos FC's goal looked a bit too open when Maximiliano Escribano came free, but Dimitris Michopoulos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dimitris Michopoulos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Francisco Seco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Francisco Seco came free with the goalkeeper in the 79th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Dimitris Michopoulos could save by the left post. In the 80th minute Vrasidas Mantelis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joaquin Gayoso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Olympiacos FC booed when Uruguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kevin Carballal didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vrasidas Mantelis in the 86th minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Timos Kolleris had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Maximiliano Escribano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dimitris Michopoulos having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Francisco Seco got free with Dimitris Michopoulos in the 95th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Olympiacos FC's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
