Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Francisco Seco started the match with the kick off. Antonis Nikopolidis stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Francisco Seco's shot from short distance in the 5th minute. Jorge Sainz made in the 6th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Nea Salamis's Cafu Milan. When the match had gone on for 7 minutes, Pipo Inzaghi took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Joaquin Gayoso to make any attempt to save it. After 11 played minutes Uruguay got a freekick which was hit by Jorge Sainz. The long shot by Pipo Inzaghi in the 12th minute really tested Joaquin Gayoso's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. 15 minutes into the game, Jorge Sainz threw the ball into play from the sideline. Nea Salamis's Cafu Milan quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. If Francisco Seco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Maximiliano Escribano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jorge Sainz made in the 21st minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Camilo Franco however managed to control. Nea Salamis's Cafu Milan quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Jorge Sainz, made in the 22nd minute of the game. 25 minutes into the match, Nea Salamis's Pipo Inzaghi sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Joaquin Gayoso narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 26 minutes, Maximiliano Escribano mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Uruguay and the Nea Salamis players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 26th minute, Maximiliano Escribano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 29 minutes Uruguay's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Pipo Inzaghi who took care of the corner kick. The corner led Nea Salamis's Pipo Inzaghi to fire away a dangerous shot which Joaquin Gayoso despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Alkibiades Kutras kicked well hit freekick during the 35th minute of the match. In the 38th minute Uruguay were awarded a corner. Jaime Cazalla went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Uruguay's Jaime Cazalla to fire away a dangerous shot which Antonis Nikopolidis despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After having played for 39 minutes, Francisco Seco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Uruguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Francisco Seco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the Uruguay defense, Pipo Inzaghi kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joaquin Gayoso. The Uruguay fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joaquin Gayoso should have stopped the shot. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ruud Nistelrooy made a kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Francisco Seco got free with Antonis Nikopolidis in the 51st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A sloppy throw-in by Jorge Sainz in the 53rd minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Nea Salamis's Cafu Milan. 54 minutes into the match, Nea Salamis's goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Francisco Seco. After having played for 56 minutes, Pipo Inzaghi managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Nea Salamis's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pipo Inzaghi was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Joaquin Gayoso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pipo Inzaghi in the 58th minute of play. 66 minutes into the match, Pipo Inzaghi notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso. Joaquin Gayoso was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 72 minutes into the match, Nea Salamis's Pipo Inzaghi sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Joaquin Gayoso narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some careless play in the Uruguay defense, Pipo Inzaghi kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joaquin Gayoso. The Uruguay fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joaquin Gayoso should have stopped the shot. A throw-in in the 78th minute of the game was made by Jorge Sainz with Camilo Franco as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Francisco Seco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Antonis Nikopolidis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Pipo Inzaghi's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Joaquin Gayoso read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 86th minute of play. In the 86th minute, Pipo Inzaghi made a precise shot to the right of Joaquin Gayoso. Uruguay's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-0. Ruud Nistelrooy fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joaquin Gayoso having to interfere. Francisco Seco who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 94thth minute tested the skills of Antonis Nikopolidis when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The Nea Salamis players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
