Ȼōŗỉȵᵺỉƛȵʂ Wƛŗŗỉōŗʂ®'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ecuador the free kick. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 65th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. After having played for 72 minutes, Felix Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Felix Montenegro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Toninho da Cunha fell near the penalty area in the 73rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ȼōŗỉȵᵺỉƛȵʂ Wƛŗŗỉōŗʂ®'s protests and gave Toninho da Cunha a yellow card for diving instead. In the 95th minute, Ȼōŗỉȵᵺỉƛȵʂ Wƛŗŗỉōŗʂ®'s goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Daniel Zorita fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. When the final whistle sounded Ecuador left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Ȼōŗỉȵᵺỉƛȵʂ Wƛŗŗỉōŗʂ®.
