Abelardo Maranhense took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Abel de Godoi could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. Olivedos's Abelardo Maranhense played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 21st minute of play. Julio Vera had in the 48thth minute some difficulties stopping Cássio Ferraz's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Cristian Sancho made a kick off. Abel de Godoi's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Abel de Godoi helped the player get up and apologised. In the 54th match minute, Olivedos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Abel de Godoi to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a free kick in the 58th minute. In the 58th minute of the match Luisinho Ceresso sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Julio Vera skillfully saved the ball. 61 minutes into the match, Olivedos's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Abelardo Maranhense reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Olivedos's supporters rose to their feet, but Abel de Godoi was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
