After 9 minutes of play, Chile's Mariano Lacasa made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Abelardo Maranhense was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 11th minute, Tony Schmidt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 15 minutes into the match, Magno Sampaio had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Thiago Pliego. Chile's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Magno Sampaio was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Abel de Godoi kicked well hit freekick during the 19th minute of the match. 21 minutes into the match, Chile's Mariano Lacasa sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Abelardo Maranhense narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 30 minutes into the match, Olivedos's goal looked a bit too open when Mariano Lacasa came free, but Abelardo Maranhense reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thiago Pliego showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Abel de Godoi in the 31st minute of the match. In the 36th match minute, Chile was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felix Garrido to maneuver through the defense. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mariano Lacasa to make the kick off. Chile's Guillermo Fontirroig got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Thiago Pliego showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cássio Ferraz, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cássio Ferraz in the 56th minute of play forced Chile's goalkeeper Thiago Pliego to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Chile's Thiago Pliego played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cássio Ferraz in the 89th minute of play. After having played for 92 minutes, Orlando Casaus managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Chile's supporters crossed their fingers, but Orlando Casaus was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The Chile supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Chile would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
