In the 6th minute, Florin Busuioc hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Paraguay booed when FC Univ. Craiova-Stiinta- was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gigi Negru didn't get a good kick on the ball. Primitivo Escribano recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 10th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 15 minutes into the game, Alan Campos was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Paraguay's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Univ. Craiova-Stiinta- the free kick. A sloppy throw-in by Florin Busuioc in the 20th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Paraguay's Iker Tafalla. 25 minutes into the match, FC Univ. Craiova-Stiinta-'s goalkeeper Nistor Calomfir had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jaime Pardo. Xavier Zoido hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. In the 29th match minute, FC Univ. Craiova-Stiinta- was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marin Groza to maneuver through the defense. With his leg Nistor Calomfir managed to avoid a goal in the 30thth minute, when Paraguay's Jaime Pardo fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. With a little luck, FC Univ. Craiova-Stiinta-'s Nistor Calomfir got control of the ball when Jaime Pardo tried to sneak it across the goal line. Jaime Pardo in the 34thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Nistor Calomfir, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Hector Covarrubias could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Nistor Calomfir made a huge save. Jacobo Nores took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Moise Hârlău, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 41 played minutes Paraguay got a freekick which was hit by Jaime Pardo. When Daniel Pascu came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the FC Univ. Craiova-Stiinta- fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Pascu couldn't finish the play. Jaime Pardo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nistor Calomfir having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Jaime Pardo was the one to do the kick off. Paraguay's attentive Alan Campos managed to snatch the ball when Emanuel Bunescu made a throw-in in the 52nd minute of the game. In the 55th minute, Hector Covarrubias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Daniel Pascu came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the FC Univ. Craiova-Stiinta- fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Pascu couldn't finish the play. Hector Covarrubias might have been able to make a better finish in the 59th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nistor Calomfir. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Hector Covarrubias ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 62nd match minute, FC Univ. Craiova-Stiinta- was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Daniel Pascu to maneuver through the defense. Dorel Frântu charged in rather forcefully in the 68th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dorel Frântu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 68 played minutes FC Univ. Craiova-Stiinta- got a freekick which was hit by Dorel Frântu. A sloppy throw-in by Florin Busuioc in the 82nd minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Paraguay's Hector Covarrubias. If Hector Covarrubias had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jaime Pardo scored 1-0 in the 84th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nistor Calomfir, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When the referee ended the match the Paraguay players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
