After some fancy dribbling in the 7th minute, Edmundo Espiga managed to get in a good position for a shot. Honduras's supporters rose to their feet, but Edmundo Espiga was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hermengildo Hermelando breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Lukasz Banaszak fell near the penalty area in the 10th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Invur Fondos de México FC's protests and gave Lukasz Banaszak a yellow card for diving instead. Sebastian Villa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Hermengildo Hermelando tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

An unexpectedly hard shot by András Soós in the 55th minute of play forced Honduras's goalkeeper Lautaro Navarro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 58th minute Edmundo Espiga shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hermengildo Hermelando saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. For all the effort they put into the match, the Honduras players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense.
