Real Suciedad's supporters crossed their fingers, but Roberto Elazar was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Paraguay's Xavier Zoido got a free kick in the 47th minute. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

In the 53rd minute, Amadeo Tristan got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Primitivo Escribano hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. After 55 played minutes Real Suciedad got a freekick which was hit by Amado Pio. Jaime Pardo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cyryl Skonieczny having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Real Suciedad's Sebastião Varela got a free kick in the 63rd minute. In the 70th minute, Roberto Cabañas reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Jacobo Nores. The goal made the score 0-2. Jacobo Nores made a fantastic save in the 78th minute, when Roberto Elazar sent off a good shot on target. Paraguay's Jacobo Nores proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 88th minute of the match, managed to save Paraguay from getting a goal against them. Chants of Real Suciedad echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as Paraguay had held the ball for most of the match.
