Mauro Primeiro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 18th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. The attack was good, but when Mauro Primeiro in the 37th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. In the 42nd match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cristian Sancho to maneuver through the defense. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Çağdaş Yuvakuran in the 46th minute of play.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Bartosz Erland received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 68th minute, Antonio Arias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After taking down the ball on Poli Timisoara's corner Horst-Peter Unterberger fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Julio Vera quite easily take care of the ball. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 79 minutes into the match, Poli Timisoara's goal looked a bit too open when Luis Andino came free, but Ovidiu Adrian reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Luis Andino during the 81st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. With a little luck, Poli Timisoara's Ovidiu Adrian got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. Poli Timisoara's Ovidiu Adrian proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 86th minute of the match, managed to save Poli Timisoara from getting a goal against them. Luis Andino got his second yellow card in the match during the 94th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 94 minutes play. Luis Andino hit a great ball. The Poli Timisoara players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
