Ecuador's Daniel Zorita was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Bob Hyatt in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Bob Hyatt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Andino in the 11th minute of play. 13 minutes into the match, ACC Mavericks's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Bob Hyatt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nerio Lopez de Toro in the 14th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. In the 15th minute ACC Mavericks were awarded a corner. Jose Bermudez went to the cornerflag to take it. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nerio Lopez de Toro in the 16th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 21st minute of play forced ACC Mavericks's goalkeeper Bob Hyatt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. ACC Mavericks's Bob Hyatt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 36th minute of play. In the 37th minute Tuan Eubanks shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 39th minute ACC Mavericks were awarded a corner. Jose Bermudez went to the cornerflag to take it. It was a well-played corner which Steve Van Clynenbreugel managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. In the 42nd minute Nerio Lopez de Toro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Antonio Arias kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, ACC Mavericks's Sixten Gullesson got a free kick in the 50th minute.
