The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Christoffel Portmans was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. But to his dismay, Arnout Worteleers quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. Ludwig Van der Borght blasted a shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Julio Vera having to make a save. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Emilio Cimino hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. Luis Andino hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
