The audience thought a goal was coming when Tory Weeks got free with Pedro Manzanares in the 41st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Aaron Smallwood showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Axel Montenegro in the 44th minute of the match. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

After having played for 50 minutes, Axel Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Colombia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Axel Montenegro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Aaron Smallwood showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Abram Sarmiento, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. 56 minutes into the game, Cesar Small cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Pedro Manzanares didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Santos FC. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Colombia had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
