In the 4th minute Patricio Costa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fernand Hierro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 9 minutes into the match, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Fernand Hierro narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Guns And Roses's Joel Espiridion quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Guillermo Mariano, made in the 16th minute of the game. Fernand Hierro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 18th minute of play. Salvador Gisbert made in the 27th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Guns And Roses's Aldo Enetz. After 29 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Camilo Gaos. In the 30th minute, Guns And Roses's Angelito Demaria dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Patricio Costa in the 34th minute of play forced Guns And Roses's goalkeeper Fernand Hierro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A throw-in in the 37th minute of the game was made by Guillermo Mariano with Tomas Illescas as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Tomas Illescas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 38th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Patricio Costa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fernand Hierro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Patricio Costa, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. After some careless play in the Guns And Roses defense, Tomas Illescas kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Fernand Hierro. The Guns And Roses fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Fernand Hierro should have stopped the shot. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tomas Illescas was the one to do the kick off. Antonio Cordara hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience was convinced that Tomas Illescas's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fernand Hierro was relentless in the 57th minute of the game. After a rather tough play, Guns And Roses's Aldo Enetz got a free kick in the 59th minute. Patricio Costa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fernand Hierro having to interfere. Tomas Illescas succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-2 in the 65th playminute. The crowd rose to their feet as Venezuela's Patricio Costa slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Fernand Hierro. That made the score 1-3 after 73 minutes of play. Patricio Costa was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 78th minute. Venezuela's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. When Camilo Gaos fell near the penalty area in the 81st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Venezuela's protests and gave Camilo Gaos a yellow card for diving instead. Camilo Gaos hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. In the 84th minute of the game Guillermo Mariano made a throw-in which Tomas Illescas played forward. Patricio Costa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Fernand Hierro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Illescas in the 89th minute of play forced Guns And Roses's goalkeeper Fernand Hierro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 90th minute, Tomas Illescas reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Fernand Hierro. The goal made the score 1-5. 94 minutes into the game, Alex Chicote threw the ball into play from the sideline. Guns And Roses's Aldo Enetz quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. 97 minutes in the game Guillermo Mariano did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Tomas Illescas. Venezuela's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
