Spectators: 39 (Terracing: 30, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Axel Tasis kicked off to start the match. Eliseo Noboa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gonçalo Matos having to interfere. Nuno Gomess short, quick shot in the 8thth minute got Benito Sanz to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Aaron Alcocer kicked well hit freekick during the 11th minute of the match. When Pedro Paulo Dantas fell near the penalty area in the 13th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Clube de Regatas Flalengo's protests and gave Pedro Paulo Dantas a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Clube de Regatas Flalengo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pedro Paulo Dantas didn't get a good kick on the ball. Abel Carballo's late challenge caught a Clube de Regatas Flalengo's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Abel Carballo helped the player get up and apologised. Elivélton Couto scored 1-0 in the 22nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benito Sanz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Silvinho Soeiro charged in rather forcefully in the 24th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Silvinho Soeiro the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 24th minute, Silvinho Soeiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Hugo Ferrant got a free kick in the 28th minute. After 35 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Alan Moruga. Luiz Fabiano de Sena fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. Elivélton Couto's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Benito Sanz firmly grabbed it by the left post. Gonçalo Matos came out of the goal in the 43rd minute to try and stop a shot by Costa Rica's Eliseo Noboa. But to his dismay, Eliseo Noboa quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Lautaro Puig sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Clube de Regatas Flalengo fans' excitement grew in the 56th match minute when Clube de Regatas Flalengo's Elivélton Couto looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Lautaro Puig's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. Nuno Gomes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 77th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aaron Alcocer to maneuver through the defense. In the 78th minute, Elivélton Couto left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Clube de Regatas Flalengo fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-1. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Elivélton Couto in the 81st minute of play. Abel Carballo kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. Nuno Gomes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Elivélton Couto, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Nuno Gomes kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot.
