Jonathan Ferrant was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Venezuela's Tomas Illescas got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 45th match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Patricio Costa to maneuver through the defense. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Tomas Illescas made the kick off in the second half. Tomas Illescas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out.
