In the 20th minute Orfilio Orbañanos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedro Manzanares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Colombia's Samuel Navarro got a free kick in the 23rd minute. Ariel Balboa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Abram Sarmiento in the 27th minute of play. A sloppy throw-in by Orlando Tafalla in the 29th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by U. de Tarapacá's Estevan Espínola. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Colombia reached it. 41 minutes into the match, Orfilio Orbañanos had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Pedro Manzanares. Colombia's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Orfilio Orbañanos was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. 47 minutes into the match, U. de Tarapacá's goal looked a bit too open when Abram Sarmiento came free, but Ariel Balboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Abram Sarmiento made a kick off. 51 minutes into the match, Colombia's Axel Montenegro sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ariel Balboa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 53rd match minute, U. de Tarapacá was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Zheng Ning Peng to maneuver through the defense. Kevin Mastache was extremely unlucky when he, in the 54th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. U. de Tarapacá's Rafael Demanet was substituted for Muharrem Duman. U. de Tarapacá's Ariel Balboa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save U. de Tarapacá from getting a goal against them. U. de Tarapacá's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
