Luis Andino recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 13th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The Ecuador fans' excitement grew in the 39th match minute when Ecuador's Daniel Zorita looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After a defensive mix-up in River de Ramos Mejía's zone, Felix Montenegro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eleuterio Maureo came out of the goal and Felix Montenegro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Angelo Grabiel to make the kick off. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Eleuterio Maureo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. River de Ramos Mejía's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Pedalas Peca in the 57th minute. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Angelo Grabiel, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. In the 92nd minute Angelo Grabiel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 94 minutes in the game, Daniel Zorita fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Eleuterio Maureo having to interfere. Ecuador's Luis Andino got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The River de Ramos Mejía support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
