First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! Rolando Noboa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jeremias Ezkerra in the 36th minute of play. Primo Speranza came out of the goal in the 42nd minute to try and stop a shot by Peru's Julian Murillo. But to his dismay, Julian Murillo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Rolando Noboa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Leon Matthäus, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. Julian Murillo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 47th minute of the match, but Primo Speranza made a huge save.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Julian Murillo was the one to do the kick off.
