Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 12th minute. A well done corner resulted in Agustín Saelices drilling the ball in to score 1-0 behind Sportivo Chupeño's goalkeeper. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tino Abeijon in the 17th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Juan Antonio Pizzi in the 19th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 19 minutes, Juan Antonio Pizzi made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. Ecuador's Julio Vera tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eduard De Fretes in the 21st minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Sportivo Chupeño's zone, Daniel Zorita stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aytek Subahi came out of the goal and Daniel Zorita tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tino Abeijon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Juan Antonio Pizzi, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. 34 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Tino Abeijon came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Aytek Subahi made a fantastic save in the 36th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. In the 38th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 41st match minute, Sportivo Chupeño was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tino Abeijon to maneuver through the defense. Eduard De Fretes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Daniel Zorita to strike the kick off in the second half. Aytek Subahi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. 56 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Luis Andino sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Aytek Subahi narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 57 minutes had been played when some careless play by Sportivo Chupeño's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. Tino Abeijon's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 59th minute of play. Raul Hubbard hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. Daniel Zorita took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 60th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Aytek Subahi. Sportivo Chupeño's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Aytek Subahi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. Francis Stuart struck a weak shot in the 64th minute. Julio Vera didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sportivo Chupeño. Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 69th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Felix Montenegro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Aytek Subahi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A nice corner shot did that Michel Abadie got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Raul Hubbard hit a great freekick 86 minutes into the match. In the 90th minute Hipolito Abad shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 92 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Michel Abadie who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Michel Abadie almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
