The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. Felix Montenegro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Roberto-Carlos Abbondanzieri tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 61 minutes into the match, Club Atlético Escocia's Leonel Caponi sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The shot was a little too simple and Roberto-Carlos Abbondanzieri could save by the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jonas Tauro in the 71st minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 73rd minute, Club Atlético Escocia's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Daniel Zorita fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Roberto-Carlos Abbondanzieri made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 93rd minute of play. Ecuador were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
