Joel Gaona fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Roberto-Carlos Abbondanzieri having to interfere. 14 minutes into the match, Club Atlético Escocia's goal looked a bit too open when Joel Gaona came free, but Roberto-Carlos Abbondanzieri reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dante Lacasa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Leonel Caponi's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. In the 21st minute, Joel Gaona left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Mexico fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. After 33 minutes of play, Mexico's Alberto Tafalla made it 0-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-4.
