After some fancy dribbling in the 45th minute, Milagros Fraga managed to get in a good position for a shot. Peru's supporters rose to their feet, but Milagros Fraga was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Percy Fernandez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Peru's attentive Eliseo Mina managed to snatch the ball when Marco Tardelli made a throw-in in the 47th minute of the game. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The wind increased when Doctor Strange made the kick off in the second half. In the 77th minute, Julian Murillo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With an all-out effort, Peru's Percy Fernandez threw himself towards the right post 79 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Eliseo Mina, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The supporters of Peru booed when Sport Clube Recife was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Delfim Leite didn't get a good kick on the ball. Peru's Eliseo Alcocer was substituted for Moises Gayoso. Peru's Rafael Gallo was substituted for Julian Murillo. A collision led to Sport Clube Recife getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Peru would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
