The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 2nd minute, Abraham Alguacil hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 6th match minute, GARIBALDI FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Raul Transito to maneuver through the defense. Marcos Cotilla took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eduard Hourani, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Abraham Alguacil had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tomas Berganza scored 1-0 in the 15th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Rene Llorian, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Tomas Berganza fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rene Llorian having to interfere. In the 48th minute of the match GARIBALDI FC got a corner. Panama's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Hugo Jacinto ran over to the corner to take the kick. Hugo Jacinto made a great header on GARIBALDI FC's corner, it was just that Panama's Marcos Cotilla managed to reach the ball for a save. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
