The corner led to Peru's Eliseo Mina getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. After 29 played minutes Peru got a freekick which was hit by Anthony Alvarado. Carlos Eduardo Aparecido didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Julian Murillo went, in the 35th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. With an all-out effort, Fielzão's Rolando Noboa threw himself towards the right post 43 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Carlos Augusto Vasconcelos, which otherwise would have been placed in the net.
