In the 4th match minute, Uruguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kevin Carballal to maneuver through the defense. Maximiliano Escribano hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. After 14 minutes, Fernandinho Albuquerque made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Alberto Gisbert kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. Joaquin Gayoso stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Aírton Oliveira's shot from short distance in the 22nd minute. The supporters of Uruguay booed when Karaboudjan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Yuri Teixeira didn't get a good kick on the ball. With an all-out effort, Uruguay's Marcelinho Abraão threw himself towards the right post 24 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Maximiliano Escribano, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 26th minute, Camilo Franco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the match had gone on for 29 minutes, Fernandinho Albuquerque put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Joaquin Gayoso. Yuri Teixeira's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Joaquin Gayoso read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 32nd minute of play. Maximiliano Escribano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcelinho Abraão having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luizão Peixoto in the 39th minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Marcelinho Abraão made a fantastic save in the 43rd minute, when Francisco Seco sent off a good shot on target. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Francisco Seco made a kick off. After a rather tough play, Karaboudjan's Kléberson Gomes got a free kick in the 51st minute. After having played for 53 minutes, Francisco Seco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Uruguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Francisco Seco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Fernandinho Albuquerque's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 54thth minute, Joaquin Gayoso skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Fernandinho Albuquerques short, quick shot in the 56thth minute got Joaquin Gayoso to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Luizão Peixoto in the 58th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Joaquin Gayoso saved Uruguay from getting behind. After 61 played minutes Karaboudjan got a freekick which was hit by Aírton Oliveira. Fernandinho Albuquerque could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 73rd minute of the match, but Joaquin Gayoso made a huge save. A collision led to Uruguay getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Jorge Sainz hit a great ball. In the last second Joaquin Gayoso throw himself and got hold of the ball when Fernandinho Albuquerque in the 76thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Karaboudjan's Marcelinho Abraão played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Francisco Seco in the 78th minute of play. Fernandinho Albuquerque's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 79thth minute, Joaquin Gayoso skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 84th minute the ball was on its way in behind Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With a little luck, Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso got control of the ball when Aírton Oliveira tried to sneak it across the goal line. Karaboudjan's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
