Soso Cheishvili could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 10th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Ermegildo Fazzini came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the Club Deportes La Serena fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ermegildo Fazzini couldn't finish the play. When Club Deportes La Serena's Ermegildo Fazzini, in the 23rd minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Club Deportes La Serena. After 27 minutes Club Deportes La Serena's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. Despite this Tobías Quilempan quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Luis Andino got a free kick in the 29th minute. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ermegildo Fazzini, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Soso Cheishvili fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Camilo Gisbert kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. Ermegildo Fazzini's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 35thth minute, Julio Vera skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. Tobías Quilempan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. After 42 minutes of play, Club Deportes La Serena's Ermegildo Fazzini made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Julio Vera was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 46 minutes, Salvatore Bunster mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Club Deportes La Serena and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card.

The wind increased when Ermegildo Fazzini made the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Said Hamed in the 56th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 58 minutes into the match, Club Deportes La Serena's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Tobías Quilempan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Soso Cheishvili's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 66th minute of play. Salvatore Bunster received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Club Deportes La Serena were awarded a corner in the 73th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Sten Pååk took the corner. The corner ended in Sten Pååk almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. In the 75th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tobías Quilempan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Club Deportes La Serena made a substitution. Edgardo Garzo replaced Ermegildo Fazzini.
