A sloppy throw-in by Guillermo Mariano in the 12th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by C A U's Candido Firmo. Gaudencio Iturri charged in rather forcefully in the 13th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gaudencio Iturri the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Venezuela booed when C A U was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gaudencio Iturri didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jose Correa charged in rather forcefully in the 16th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jose Correa the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Jose Correa hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. In the 18th minute of the match Nazar Colombo shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jonathan Ferrant showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 22 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Tomas Illescas. 23 minutes into the match, Lucas Barcelos notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant. Jonathan Ferrant was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 29th minute, Lucas Barcelos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 32 minutes into the match, C A U's Lucas Barcelos sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jonathan Ferrant narrowly saved just below the crossbar. C A U's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Nazar Colombo in the 34th minute. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Venezuela's goalie and right to Conrado Ferrer. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Venezuela's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 42nd minute of the match, managed to save Venezuela from getting a goal against them. After a defensive mix-up in Venezuela's zone, Lucas Barcelos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jonathan Ferrant came out of the goal and Lucas Barcelos tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. C A U made a substitution. Eliseo Hurko replaced Candido Firmo.

In the 56th minute, Lucas Barcelos ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jonathan Ferrant was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lucas Barcelos in the 61st minute of play. Feliberto Gonsalvo made a fantastic save in the 64th minute, when Tomas Illescas sent off a good shot on target. 66 minutes into the match, Lucas Barcelos notched a goal, 4-0, to the right of Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant. Jonathan Ferrant was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. C A U made a substitution. Ceferino Hever replaced Conrado Ferrer. C A U's Jorge Nahia was substituted for Lucas Barcelos. In the 87th minute Jorge Nahia shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 94th match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joshua Secada to maneuver through the defense. 97 minutes into the game, C A U's Jorge Nahia nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jonathan Ferrant made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 6-0.
