In the 14th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 15 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Felix Montenegro sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Leontin Racoviceanu narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 18 minutes of play, Romania's Cazimir Pătran made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Damian Şerb's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Damian Şerb helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Romania booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Primitivo Andino didn't get a good kick on the ball. Leontin Racoviceanu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 35 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 39th minute of the match, but Leontin Racoviceanu made a huge save. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Romania was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. George Ghinescu didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 46 minutes, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Cazimir Pătran made a kick off. Leontin Racoviceanu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 52nd minute of the match. Primitivo Andino made in the 54th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Agustín Saelices however managed to control. After 55 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Primitivo Andino. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Primitivo Andino got a free kick in the 57th minute. 64 minutes into the match, Romania's Cazimir Pătran sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Leontin Racoviceanu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 67th minute of play. After 71 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Primitivo Andino. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Damian Şerb in the 77th minute of play. Romania were awarded a corner in the 78th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Radu Penescu took the corner. The corner ended in Radu Penescu almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. Toader Burca charged in rather forcefully in the 80th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Toader Burca the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 80th minute, Toader Burca hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Leontin Racoviceanu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 86th minute of play forced Romania's goalkeeper Leontin Racoviceanu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 89 minutes into the match, Romania's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Leontin Racoviceanu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Ecuador lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
