After 12 minutes, Juan Rubio mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Costa Rica and the Riograndense FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Juan Rubio kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Costa Rica's zone, Yuri Meira stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Benito Sanz came out of the goal and Yuri Meira tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 15th minute Eliseo Noboa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wellington Sena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Riograndense FC's Lino Torres got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Juan Almeida got free with Benito Sanz in the 25th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Juan Rubio was shown his second yellow card after 29 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Juan Rubio kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. Riograndense FC's Edu Donatello managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Hugo Ferrant in the 34 minute of the game. Juan Almeida sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 37th minute, Juan Almeida ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Benito Sanz, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Eliseo Noboa was extremely unlucky when he, in the 52nd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. After a rather tough play, Riograndense FC's Edu Donatello got a free kick in the 56th minute. In the 58th minute, Aaron Alcocer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Alan Moruga's late challenge caught a Riograndense FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alan Moruga helped the player get up and apologised. After some fancy dribbling in the 71st minute, Lautaro Puig managed to get in a good position for a shot. Costa Rica's supporters rose to their feet, but Lautaro Puig was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wellington Sena breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Lino Torres fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Juan Almeida in the 79th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Alan Moruga got a free kick in the 81st minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Eliseo Noboa kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Wellington Sena. That made the score 1-1 in the 86 minute of play. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lino Torres in the 90th minute of play. 91 minutes had been played when some careless play by Costa Rica's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Yuri Meira was slow to take the kick. During this time Riograndense FC's players had a chance to rest. Riograndense FC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Yuri Meira in the 93rd minute. Rômulo Fontes made a great header on Riograndense FC's corner, it was just that Costa Rica's Benito Sanz managed to reach the ball for a save. Costa Rica succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Riograndense FC had controlled the match.
