After some fancy dribbling in the 10th minute, Gilmar Monteiro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vascogoianiense FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Gilmar Monteiro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience was convinced that João Pirani's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 12th minute of the game. Antonio Arias hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Cristian Sancho fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Nelsinho Leite quite easily take care of the ball. 29 minutes had been played when some careless play by Vascogoianiense FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Cristian Sancho got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Nelsinho Leite quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Nelsinho Leite tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Vascogoianiense FC's Gilmar Monteiro got a free kick in the 34th minute. Nelsinho Leite made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 36th minute of play. In the 38th minute Vascogoianiense FC were awarded a corner. Aírton Sousa went to the cornerflag to take it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agustín Saelices in the 41st minute of play forced Vascogoianiense FC's goalkeeper Nelsinho Leite to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If João Pirani had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nelsinho Leite showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 46th minute of the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 52nd minute of the match, but Nelsinho Leite made a huge save. A nice corner shot did that Daniel Zorita got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Nelsinho Leite quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Nelsinho Leite in the 64th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Cristian Sancho hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. 70 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Aírton Sousa came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 71 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Aírton Sousa who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Aírton Sousa almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Daniel Zorita who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 85thth minute tested the skills of Nelsinho Leite when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Gilmar Monteiro took the ball and in the 86 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julio Vera. Julio Vera dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. Nelsinho Leite made a fantastic save in the 93rd minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. The corner ended in Daniel Zorita almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Vascogoianiense FC's Nelsinho Leite did a great save. Cristian Sancho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 96th minute of the match, but Nelsinho Leite made a huge save. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
