Mariano Lacasa's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Vinicio Aires read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 31st minute of play. In the 32nd match minute, the xeneise dream team was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Genaro Farias to maneuver through the defense. Vinicio Aires made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mariano Lacasa in the 34th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Habil Castolo got free with Thiago Pliego in the 38th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 39th minute Mariano Lacasa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vinicio Aires saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Paolo Eutor blasted a shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Thiago Pliego having to make a save. In the 42nd minute, Roque Mercurio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 43 played minutes, Chile's Mariano Lacasa shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Vinicio Aires came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. The the xeneise dream team fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Vinicio Aires should have stopped the shot. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Habil Castolo made a kick off. Vinicio Aires showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mariano Lacasa, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. If Habil Castolo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. For all the effort they put into the match, the Chile players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense.
